Why Atlanta?
The Confess Project is expanding its efforts to Atlanta! Atlanta is known as the “cradle of the Civil Rights Movement” because Black leaders fought tirelessly for voting rights, economic equality, educational opportunities, and equal access to public spaces between 1940 and 1970. One of the most notable leaders during this era was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Every year, hundreds of Black men graduate from Dr. King’s alma mater, Morehouse, located near Atlanta’s downtown. Atlanta is synonymous with Black excellence.
Atlanta’s status as the “Black Mecca,” however, is precarious at best. For instance, Black Atlanta residents experience an 11.5% jobless rate in 2017 compared to 2.5% for white residents. Additionally, Black Atlanta residents are six times more likely than their white counterparts to experience homelessness in the past three years. Poverty and joblessness often result in poor mental health.

We are preparing to open an office in Atlanta next year. This office will be in a co-op workspace. A TCP Program Consultant, Community Organizer, and the Council will be working from this office space. This is a groundbreaking move for our organization because it is our first office space outside of Arkansas. This opening is the first of TCP's expansion into other states. Ultimately, we plan to be bicoastal and international.
Our mission to serve Black boys and men will continue to push through obstacles and rise above all doubt. Thank you everyone for your continued efforts to foster healing for our communities. We are working for a higher purpose and we have many reasons to be proud of ourselves! The Confess Project is going to provide Black and Brown communities in Atlanta with much needed mental health education and resources. We are excited to partner with leaders and organizations in the Atlanta area to serve residents to the best of our ability. Together, we will continue to redefine Black and Brown mental health culture!

TCP’s programming specifically focuses on communities of color who have far too long borne the brunt and weight of trauma, alone. Our team brings over 40 years collective experience in fields ranging from social work to behavioral health to therapy to develop programs for those who have the greatest stake in the issue. Hoping to reach as many advocates as possible, we see our programs as part of a wider movement to solve mental health disparities in communities of color—now, and for generations to come.
